An Introduction

The community of Eastchester, New York, has a rich and interesting history dating back to the 1600's. The story of our town parallels that of our nation, from it's founding to the struggle for fundamental human freedoms. That story is told on these pages.

The seventh and eighth graders of Eastchester Middle School have researched, written and illustrated the history of our community, located in Westchester County, just north of New York City.

Using the controls located at the bottom of each page, you can follow the story in chronological order or use the Table of Contents to select a particular topic.

Throughout this work, the contributing students are acknowledged on the page upon which their work is displayed. The publication of "Historic Eastchester" would not have been possible without the assistance of the teachers of Eastchester Middle School: Mr. Rick Donahue, Computer Technology teacher; Mrs. Joan Pisarra, English teacher; Mrs. Jan Nowak, English teacher; Mrs. Dorothy Johnson, Art teacher; and Mr. Richard Forliano, Social Studies teacher and Town Historian for Eastchester.
